PLOT House / Intelligent Living
Eight intelligent spaces for wellness, autonomy, rehabilitation, companionship, and everyday adaptive environments.
The work.
PLOT's Intelligent Living track focuses on wellness, safety, and autonomy across eight intelligent spaces in our living lab — Sleep Pod, Destress Alcove, Rehab & Exercise, Immersion Room, Common Area, Nutritional Zone, Meeting Space, and Office Nook. Using ambient sensing, wearables, edge AI, and gentle robotics, PLOT pilots age-in-place systems, real-time health monitoring, adaptive environments for rehabilitation, and social connectivity. Everything emphasizes user consent, local data processing, and transparent system behavior.
Pillar leads.
Robotics, AI systems, edge coordination, and intelligent ecosystems for everyday environments
In the field.

On-Site Edge Data Lake
A former carport rebuilt into an on-site edge data center: multimodal data pipeline, Parquet storage, and on-device inference. Exterior complete April 2026; interior fit-out underway.

Field Station · 25 Acres
Twenty-five acres of living testbed where the campus senses, learns, and responds to the people in it — the shared canvas for environmental, sensing, mobility, robotics, and agriculture pilots.

Gen-2 Multi-Modal Sensor Unit
A privacy-aware ambient sensing unit designed in-house — from CAD to fabrication to live deployment in a single semester. Deployed for the first live demo, March 2026.

AI-Driven Assistive Dexterous Manipulation
Multi-finger dexterous manipulation for assistive daily living — deep reinforcement learning, vision-language-action models, and shared autonomy from KSU's Intelligent Dexterity (InDex) Lab.

Environment, Memory & Creativity
Studying how time-of-day and environmental context shape memory and creative thinking inside the living lab.

Movement Monitoring · Motion Capture
Markerless, multi-modal motion capture — RGB, depth, thermal, and pose — for movement, exercise, and rehabilitation monitoring on real in-home activity.

Wireless Sensing of Daily Activities
Continuous, privacy-aware wireless sensing (RF and mmWave) of everyday in-home activities, captured across realistic routines.

Nutrilyzer · Meal-Picture Nutrition
AI pipeline that converts meal photos into structured per-ingredient nutrition estimates.

SmartCare Dementia AI
AI-supported care for people living with dementia — ambient, privacy-preserving monitoring of wellbeing, sleep, and daily activity that surfaces meaningful changes early and lightens the load on caregivers.

mHealth · Sleep & Behavior
mHealth, healthcare informatics, and AI-driven sleep and behavioral analytics.

Neuromorphic & Edge AI
Neuromorphic computing and energy-efficient AI on the edge.

Platform Data Pipelining & Captures
Multimodal data pipelining and capture infrastructure that feeds the platform and its research datasets.

Crack Detection · Quadruped Robot
Autonomous concrete-crack inspection on a Unitree Go1 quadruped — LiDAR + RGB-D SLAM for navigation and a YOLO crack-detection model that localizes and scores surface cracks in real time, indoors and out.

Outreach & Learning
Community outreach and hands-on engagement across the PLOT site — tours, demos, and K-12 and university programs that bring people onto the living campus.

Educational Pilot
Embedding the living campus into coursework — students learn sensing, AI, and human-centered design by building and studying real PLOT systems.
